I am a pedagogue by profession. At the age of 26 I first started to practice yoga with Vencislav Evtimov and stayed with his system for one year. In spring 1997 I started to attend classes with Ana Pavlova while continuing with my regular yoga practice. From October 2001 to January 2002 I attended the 4 month certificate course in yogic studies at Bihar Yoga Bharati, India. After returning from India I started to teach yoga in small groups. I am participating in all courses, seminars and events organized by the Bulgarian Yoga Association. I visit our ashrams at least once every year. On two occasions my ashram visits were for a longer period of time. In 2004 I stayed at the Satyanandashram Hellas (Greece) for three months and while there attended courses for shankaprakshalana and tattwa shuddhi. In 2005-2006 I stayed at the Sivananda ashram in Rikhia for seva yoga (the yoga of service). After that I traveled for about two months through southern India. We followed one of the oldest pilgrimage routes in the world, visited many famous ashrams and had the opportunity to emerge ourselves in the real everyday life of Indians.
For me teaching yoga is exchanging energy, a way to learn form each other, to develop and to grow. This is one of my dreams which came true. It gives me a feeling of satisfaction that I can help other people to feel better. We have to share our knowledge and experiences with each other, never mind how insignificant they may seem. I realize it is also a great responsibility and this motivates me to continuously improve myself and my skills.
In my teaching I use the methods of Satyananda Yoga. This system is characterized by its presentation of the ancient knowledge of yoga in a way which is both scientific and easy to understand. The stress is not only on the physical level but more on awareness and an orientation towards a deep personal transformation. I am also interested in ayurveda. My personal opinion is that yoga and ayurveda are so closely connected that in order to have the full benefit of yogic practices it is necessary to combine both.
Originally I am from Croatia but I grew up in the Netherlands. I studied in the U.S. and got my Bachelor’s degree in philosophy and my Master’s degree in anthropology/archaeology from the University of Mississippi. During my studies I practiced karate, Chinese martial arts (Kung Fu, Tai Chi Chuan), Chi Kung and Daoist meditations.
I first started to practice yoga in 1997 attending Sivananda yoga classes in Croatia. After a pause I continued to train with the Saswitha School for Yoga and Philosophy in the Netherlands. Besides following regular yoga classes with Mike Hartog I also took courses in mantra/yantra, ayurvedic massage and completed the first year of teacher training with that system.
In 2003 I started to visit the Satyanandashram Hellas in Greece. Three of my visits were for a longer period of time: in 2003 the Sannyasa Life Experience course (6 weeks); in 2004 the Yogic Life Experience course (5 months) and again a Sannyasa Life Experience course (6 weeks). During my stays I took shorter courses in Yoga and Health, Tattwa Shuddhi, Yoga and Creativity, Shankaprakshalana three times, and others. In 2005/2006 I attended the 4 month certificate course in yogic studies at Bihar Yoga Bharati, India. After the course I traveled through southern India where we visited many ashrams, holy places, temples. We had the opportunity to see both traditional and contemporary India, visiting some of the poorest rural places in India as well as its largest cities.
I started to teach yoga in 2006. I teach mainly according to the Satyananda Yoga system, but I also draw from my former training and personal experience. At the moment I am studying ayurveda from Dr. David Frawley’s course and I am especially interested to combine ayurveda and yoga in my practice.
My inspiration for teaching yoga is that I feel that I am giving something which is truly of benefit to other people, unlike some other jobs I had. I believe this traditional knowledge is a real blessing for humanity. Throughout my whole life expanding my knowledge and understanding has been the most important thing for me. I am especially interested in the connection and interaction between scientific/philosophical and religious/spiritual knowledge and ideas, Eastern and Western perspectives.
